How to Clean Up Silicone Messes Effectively!

It's a situation every crafter or hobbyist has faced – you're working with silicone, and suddenly, there's a spill or mess to clean up. Whether it's unmixed silicone or a cured mixture, dealing with silicone can be tricky. In this post, we'll explore the best ways to clean up silicone messes effectively.

Cleaning up unmixed silicone

Oh no! I spilt some silicone!

Oh no! I’ve spilt some silicone!

When dealing with unmixed silicone (either part A or part B), follow these steps:

  1. Use paper towels to wipe up the bulk of the spill. [Add an image showing someone using paper towels to wipe up a silicone spill.]

  2. Once the majority of the liquid is removed, use isopropyl alcohol wipes or paper towels soaked in isopropyl alcohol to clean up any remaining residue. Isopropyl alcohol is highly effective at removing uncured silicone.

These work like magic. 🫡

Cleaning up mixed silicone

When dealing with mixed silicone (after combining parts A and B), you have more options for cleanup, you can either:

  1. Let the silicone cure and then peel it up, any remaining surface residue can be wiped up with isopropyl alcohol wipes.

  2. Follow the same steps as in cleaning up the unmixed silicone, ie. use isopropyl alcohol wipes or paper towels soaked in isopropyl alcohol to wipe it up.

Remember, safety should always be a priority when working with silicone and particularly isopropyl alcohol products. Wear gloves, work in a well-ventilated area, and follow all product instructions carefully.

By following these tips and using the right tools and materials, you'll be able to tackle even the messiest silicone spills and keep your workspace clean and ready for your next project.
